What is Hyaluronic Acid?

Hyaluronic Acis is one of the hottest ingredients in skin care right now!
Hyaluronic Acid is not an acid in the same way as popular ones like Salicylic or Glycolic. They help exfoliate away dead skin cells, and Hyaluronic acid (HA) doesn't do that at all. It is a naturally-occurring polysaccharide found in the human body. It acts as a cushion for our joints and nerves, and lubrication for our hair, skin and eyes. It is important to the skins appearance because about 50% of the body's supply is located in the skin tissues, where it helps keep them plump and soft.  Our ability to produce HA declines with age, which can lead to our increased dryness, fine lines, wrinkles and sagging.
It is a powerful humectant, which means it draws water to the skin and helps prevent moisture loss. HA molecules have a unique ability to attract and retain more than 1,000 times their weight in water. Grabbing the majority of this moisture from the outside and pulling it into the epidermis.  However if you're using  HA and you live in a very dry climate, you need to be more aware. If it is very dry, this water-binding ingredient can not draw moisture from the environment, so it may actually start to pull moisture out of the deeper layers of your skin. This can cause skin to feel even more dry. You can still use HA, but layer a moisturizer on top to help create a stronger moisture barrier.
It has antibacterial properties, so it can help reduce the risk of infection if applied directly to the skin. It helps heal by regulating inflammation levels. This makes it a good partner for acne skin.
Do not spend a lot of money on products containing HA.  The molecules that make up the HA in Creams and serums are large and sit on the skin. These can easily be wiped off or lost throughout the day. If you are wanting it to go deeper into the dermis, you will need injectable HA. You can get this at your Dermatologist.
Professional Skin Care Academy carries a few products contains Hyaluronic Acid:
Ageless Skin Hydrating Serum, Ageless Skin Moisturizer, Acai Berry Moisturizer.

Self Care is Health Care!

Skin care is not a luxury, it is a necessity. Stress, anxiety, and sleepless nights all have an influence on our hormonal changes. They can really reek havoc on our skin. And "face" it (pun intended), some of us just have outrageous life expectations! It is important to understand that the chaos in your life can trigger hormonal imbalances that result in breakouts, rosacea, and sensitivity (in your skin, not just making you cry in the car while waiting on the kids next activity). It can also be responsible for hair loss and that weird rash.  Everything in life shows up on your skin. It is the largest organ of your body. A good diet, laughter, and self care can calm the soul, and soothe the skin. It is time to take care of you! Self care is not selfish! Give yourself permission to get a facial, back treatment or even a massage.  SELF CARE is HEALTH CARE!
