Estheticians (Skincare specialists) not only cleanse and beautify the face and body to enhance a person’s appearance, they can also help with your overall well being and stress levels. This is a very versatile career path.  Many work in salons, spas, or are even self-employed. However there is also a growing demand for these specialist in Dermatology offices and Medical Spas. These specialist are trained to work hand in hand with the medical staff using lasers, injections, peels, even pre and post surgery skincare. Oncology Esthetics is another area that is growing in the skincare workplace. With the different cancer treatments and the harm they are causing to the skin and emotional well being, treatments are being developed to help the patient throughout their medical journey.
This is a Trade School and not a four year school college. It is a 750 hour program that starts a journey that can continue to grow every year you are in the field, and in multiple different directions. Estheticians must complete a state-approved cosmetology or esthetician program and then pass a state exam to become licensed. The Bureau of Labor Statistics state The median hourly wage for skin care specialist was $15.05 in May 2018. ($31,290 per year) Some extra exciting information from the Bureau is the employment of skincare specialists is projected to grow 11% from 2018 to 2028, which is much faster than the average for all occupations. The desire among women and men to reduce the effects of aging, and maintain their health and wellness, as well as the growing number of Med-Spas will result in this employment growth. Good job opportunities are expected.
Whether you are pampering your client or executing a medical procedure, this career is all about making people feel better about themselves and boosting their self esteem. What a wonderful way to spend your work day.
