What is Salicylic Acid?

Salicylic Acid is derived from the white willow tree.  There are some companies that use ylang ylang or wintergreen, but true salicylic acid comes from the white willow. It is chemically similar to the active component in aspirin. If you have a sensitivity to aspirin, you might have a reaction to salicylic acid. This similarity allows salicylic to have anti-inflammatory properties that can heal and sooth the skin. It is a Beta-hydroxy acid (oil soluble) so it penetrates through the lipid layers between the cells more rapidily. It can go deeper that an alpha-hydroxy acid (water soluble). The AHA works well on the skin surface to loosen dead skin and show a fresh skin, the BHA travels into the skin.

Salicylic acid is one of acne's biggest enemies! It penetrates into the pore to clarify and break up impacted debris, clear skin follicles, and relieve white and blackheads to lessen future breakouts. It softens keratinized barrier cells, and assist in detoxification. Acting as an anti-inflammatory it helps pimples and pustules go away faster. It promotes healthy cell turn over, stimulates circulation and increases collagen production. Salicylic's exfoliation helps hydrate, tighten and firm skin, and reduce pore size.

The trick is to find a good balance of oil for your skin so it does not become to dry. It might take up to 4 weeks to start seeing impressive results, so do not get discouraged.  Keep up the routine, and watch your skin glow!

Why are these products called "Rare"?

When talking to our guest about Hale & Hush skin care products, we sometimes get this question: "Why are the Rare Mandelic, Rare Retinol, and Race C Serum called "Rare"?  Lets see if this explanation helps. All three are specially made for sensitive skin. The type of vitamin C used is unique as it also helps with the appearance of pore size. The rare retinal serum uses retinaldehyde which works better on sensitive skin than the other forms of vitamin A, and also helps with glycation. (Glycation is a major cause of cellular and molecular damage that occurs with aging. It is a chemical process where a sugar molecule attaches to a protein or lipid. This contributes to wrinkles, discoloration, and loss of firmness). The mandelic used is 8% mandelic with a mixture of hyaluronic, vitamin C, enzymes and lactic to not cause any irritation on sensitive skin like other mandelic serums may cause. Professional Skin Care Academy carries a complete line of the Hale & Hush pr...
