This is definitely a "SWIPE LEFT" situation!
Facial wipes could be doing more harm than good. Yes they can remove some grit and grime, but since you are not rinsing with water after, they can not get rid of all that is on your skin. The rinsing action is what actually removes the dirt and oil from your skin. Using a wipe alone is just moving that dirt and oil around on your face.
Some wipes claim "moisturizing benefits". But if the residue left behind is sticky on the skin, it is allowing germs and pollutants to adhere to the skin. This can cause irritation and inflammation leading to acne, allergic reactions, or basic breakouts. Wipes are also not completely effective in removing excess oil on the skin. This can also lead to clogged pores and breakouts.
Wipes are manufactured to sit on a store shelf for a long period of time. Be aware of the preservatives that can be added to help the shelf life. You need to add fragrances and long list of ingredients to the "swipe left" watch list too. These can irritate the skin as well.
The texture of the fibrous wipes can be rough on the skin. Rubbing the wipe over the face can cause damage to the skin surface, allowing bacteria to enter small tears and cause infection. (basic wash cloths can cause the same damage so be careful)
This does not mean you need to completely give up using facial wipes. Travel, camping, an overnight stay, can make a good facial wipe a very beneficial tool. However, nothing should replace the good old fashion face washing. A good cleanser and water is always best.
